GirlBoss New Zealand

Defying stereotypes. Creating change. Closing the gender gap in science, technology and engineering.

The Big Picture
Alexia Hilbertidou was 15 before she met a female software engineer. She was the only girl in her digital technology class and the only girl studying Advanced Physics. Searching for role models, she saw few female CEOs to look up to. So she created GirlBoss New Zealand to address this stark gender gap. The organization has grown into a network of 13,500 high school-aged members nationwide. Its programs have been implemented in over 100 schools, with thousands of participants, and its internships and online careers accelerators are motivating and supporting young women in their careers.

“I started GirlBoss because I knew that something had to change. If not me, who? If not now, when?” — Alexia Hilbertidou, GirlBoss New Zealand CEO and founder
