Inspired by Japan's post-World War II school lunch programs, the organization emphasizes the critical link between nutrition and education. This initiative highlights the importance of localized solutions in tackling food insecurity exacerbated by climate change and geopolitical conflicts.

Stephen Knight is the 2024 CNN Hero of the Year. His journey from personal recovery to founding Dogs Matter is a testament to compassion and resilience. The nonprofit provides temporary foster care for dogs while their owners undergo addiction treatment, ensuring pets are cared for and owners have a safe return. As CNN Hero of the Year, Knight will receive significant support from the Elevate Prize Foundation to expand his impactful work and reach even more lives.

For the third year, CNN Heroes is collaborating with the Elevate Prize Foundation, a global nonprofit on a mission to Make Good Famous, committed to bringing visibility to the work of changemakers and inspiring the world. The Elevate Prize Foundation is amplifying its commitment to global changemakers by matching donations for the top five CNN Heroes of 2024, up to $50,000 each. Additionally, the foundation will present a $100,000 award to the CNN Hero of the Year, furthering its mission to empower social impact leaders and maximize their reach and impact.

For the third year, CNN Heroes is collaborating with the Elevate Prize Foundation, a global nonprofit on a mission to Make Good Famous, committed to bringing visibility to the work of changemakers and inspiring the world. The Elevate Prize Foundation will grant the CNN Hero of the Year an additional unrestricted grant of $100,000 and provide the remaining honorees with a generous grant of matching funds up to $50,000 each, organizational capacity-building, and resources to bring visibility to their work and maximize their impact.

The Elevate Prize Foundation announced today the finalists of the fifth annual Elevate Prize, which recognizes social impact leaders driving transformative change around the world. Of these 20 finalists, 10 winners will ultimately be chosen to each receive $300,000 in unrestricted funding – split between $250,000 to the organization and $50,000 to the leader to invest in their own resilience and mental health.
