I was born in Korea and moved to England when I was 8 years old. At the time, I didn’t speak a word of English. Watching my mom communicate in broken English with my teachers every day — asking when homework was due, when field trips were scheduled, and how she could support us at home — made a lasting impact on my sisters’ and my education.
