Nisha Ligon co-founded Ubongo in 2013 after studying in Dar es Salaam and recognizing the gap in access to engaging, localized education for kids across Africa. Before Ubongo, she produced media content for the BBC, the Guardian, and an award-winning documentary called Twiga Stars, and holds a B.S. from Yale and an M.Sc. from Imperial College London. Ubongo’s animated shows and radio programs now reach over 17 million families across Africa in nine languages.

Since April 2022, Ubongo has been led by Mwasi Wilmore.
