The Big Picture:
Water is one of life’s most essential resources, but as much of the world is projected to face big water deficits by 2030, we need innovative and scalable solutions. Industrial designer Enrique and his organization Isla Urbana have developed an ecologically and socially sustainable way for water-scarce communities to tap into a precious and underutilized source: rain.
“When things like our food and water depend on faraway places and come from a single source that you have no real control over, that’s a really risky situation. We need a much more local level of decentralized procurement of necessary needs.” — Enrique Lomnitz, general director, Isla Urbana
